My friends and I carpooled to middle school. Each morning, a different parent would make the rounds and pick up every kid before dropping us off at school.
One morning, Mr. Sauter was driving. Instead of continuing straight to Chris’ house, he veered right and hopped on the highway. “WAIT!” we all yelled. Mr Sauter realized what had happened, pulled to the shoulder, shifted his wood-paneled mini-van into reverse, and backed up all 300 yards of the entrance ramp at 35 mph. It was the most exhilarating ride to school I ever had!
Why did he hop on the highway in the first place? It’s simple. That was his route to work. He drove there every day. He was on autopilot.
I believe we all have a tendency to go on autopilot with our lives. And that’s fine, if you want your life to keep going in the same direction it always does.
But what if you want something different? What if God is calling you to a greater purpose, a new level of service, or a stronger faith? What if autopilot isn’t taking you where God wants you to go?
As we begin a new year, I encourage you to be intentional about your life. More importantly, be intentional about your soul. We can set all kinds of goals around work, health, family, and financials, but if we don’t set spiritual goals we are neglecting the most important part of who we are.
For the last 5 years, I’ve made it a practice to go through a spiritual goal-setting process right around New Year’s Day. I’ve found it so valuable that I wanted to share it with you.
I encourage you to set aside 40 minutes (one Netflix show!) and be intentional about your spiritual life. Follow the button below and walk through the steps.
When you complete the guide, go ahead and post your goal in the comments. I’d love to pray for you and cheer you on! May God guide and bless you in 2024!
